Valencia

One of the biggest cities in Spain, and among the liveliest. It is located at the Mediterranean sea, and you will find beaches right in the very heart of it. During the summer-months it is heavily visited by tourists, and if you want to spend holidays at the beach, with fantastic possibilities for all kinds of sports (golf, diving, cycling, tennis, etc. are all very popular here) and a boiling nightlife, together with an ample cultural offering, then Valencia is the place for you. Important trade fairs confirm Valencia's position as one of the most dynamic cities in Spain.

After all that probably you will be hungry , and you have the chance to try Spain's most famous food right where it was born: "Paella Valenciana"

Then Valencia is of course the city where "El Cid", Spain's national hero, fought against the Moors, and popular festivals in the city and many villages around still offer reminders of this epoch.

Alicante

Only two hours flight from most European destinations. The city of Alicante is simply a great place to visit - at any time of year. It has a wonderfully warm Mediterranean climate and miles of soft, sandy beaches. You must explore the fairytale Santa Barbara castle which provides a spectacular backdrop to the city and the modern Marina. There are also plenty of plazas, parks and shady promenades in which to enjoy that most Spanish of pastimes Café and Tapas. It really is a wonderful mix of Spanish tradition and contemporary flair.

Surrounding Alicante you'll find the beautiful Costa Blanca of course famous for its city of Benidorm just waiting to be discovered, mountainous fortresses, theme parks (Terra Mitica), safari parks and delightful little coastal towns (Calpe, Javea, Villajoyosa, Elche) and inland villages - a real taste of

Spain.

Murcia

The city of Murcia is described as one of the most beautiful and historic in the country. The city stands on the banks of the river and enjoys all year round sunshine. It has the highest temperatures in the region. There is a great deal of Moorish influence in the city, not least of all the impressive city walls. After the reconquest, the 20 mosques in the city were turned into churches. The Cathedral is the most highly prized building in the city. The first foundation stone was laid in 1388 by Bishop Pedrosa. It took four centuries to complete. There are so many different styles and cultures within, including 23 different chapels.

As you wander through the city, there is a monumental building on every corner. Many are in pristine condition and those that aren't are being restored to their former glory. One building worthy of a mention is the casino (pictured below). Here in the 19th century, worthy citizens would sit to be admired like fish in a goldfish bowl.

Palma de Mallorca

Palma comes as a surprise to many people - it is stylish, sophisticated, intimate yet bursting with life. Half of Mallorca's population live here, enjoying the island's best restaurants, shops and nightlife as well as a thriving arts scene and a lively cafe society.

Palma's masterpiece is its Gothic cathedral, rising out of the city walls which once marked the edge of the sea. Close to here is the old Arab quarter, its maze of narrow streets hiding museums, palaces and exquisite courtyards. But do not explore old Palma at the expense of its modern side. Take coffee in the former Gran Hotel, visit an art gallery in a converted mansion, join Palma's bright young things on their evening passeig along the waterfront and you will begin to appreciate the variety of this fascinating city.
