Murcia Information

The region of Murcia is one of the seventeen single provinces (most having several provinces inside the same region). It is bordered by the provinces of Almeria and Granada, as well as Castilla-La Mancha which was part of Murcia until 1833, the Comunidad Valenciana and the Mediterranean Sea. It’s mainly a warm region which has made it suitable for agriculture as the region is a major producer of Europe’s fruits, vegetables and flowers. The highest mountain in the region is Revolcadores at 2015m.

There is plenty of entertainment and attractions in the small region. Take a nice ride on the ferry or catamaran to the harbour everyday from 10am. Go racing with the go-karts. Enjoy displays, workshops and a parrot centre at the Polaris World Garden Centre. There is also plenty of shopping to be had in the many windy streets of traditional Spanish shops or high street brands.

The Murcia region is closest to the Alicante airport in the Alicante province; it is the sixth busiest airport in Spain. It has access to destinations all over Europe and attended to 8 million passengers in 2008.

Each year there are plenty of festivals that each town likes to celebrate but there are some main ones celebrated in the Murcia region.

Cuadrillas de Barranda Festival, the festivals begin with this event on the last Sunday of January with carnivals taking place in February. Dancing troupes and costume parades taking place in some of the communities.

Semana Santa (Holy Week) is the Spanish Easter time that lasts for two weeks. It celebrates the Murcia Spring Festivals and Bando de la Huerta Day where thousands of Murcians wear traditional attire and parade through the streets.
